PIERRE

This time, though, they'd be of me alone.

I talked about it with my boyfriend Gavin before I agreed to them.

Luckily, he's not the possessive sort. So he didn't mind at all.

In fact, it was Gavin who suggested the subject for the pictures you're about to see.

They tell the story of something that really happened to us about a year ago.

On my birthday.

That's when Gavin and I hadn't been together too long. We were still at the very romantic stage. You know - when you keep buying each other little gifts all the time just to show how much you care.

Anyway, that night, much as he didn't want too, Gavin had to go out. It was something to do with work and he just had no choice if he wanted to keep his job.

He said he'd get back as soon as he could - and promised me a real good time in the sack afterwards too! After he'd left the apartment I found a note he'd left me.It said that he'd left all sorts of little surprises around the place. They'd keep me occupied and remind me of him while he was out.

The first surprise turned out to be something he'd left me to read. Now that was a surprise.Gavin loves books - he studied English in college - but knows darned well that I don't. He sometimes tells our friends that, to me, Wilkie Collins might as well be Jackie Collins - and that I couldn't tell you the difference between Henry Jamesand James Herbert if my life depended on it.But that night it didn't matter. Because Gavin had left some reading matter that he knew I'd definitely enjoy.
